I was reminded this Christmas what the point of giving gifts really is. It's not to give people what they ask for, but what you think would be best for them. It's what reminds you of them, or what you think they could use.

I had at least 5 total surprises, and I liked them all.

Sure, I was happy to get what I asked for, but it made me feel better to have those pleasant surprises.
